Proportion of Senior Roles Held by Women in Russia Declines. Grant Thornton Research

According to the research annually conducted by Grant Thornton, one of the world's largest networks of independent accounting and consulting firms, the proportion of senior roles held by women in Russia has been declining for two years in a row.

Russia was among the leaders in gender equality for several years until 2018 and the proportion of women in leadership was up to 47%. Last year Russia was ranked third with the figure of 41% that dropped to 34% in 2019 making Russia only the tenth country in the list.  While New Zealand (44%) and Australia (42%), which was among the outsiders a year ago, topped the list along with Nigeria (38.5%).

It should be noted that the average proportion of senior roles held by women this year is only 28%. Argentina (19%), Thailand (19%), France (18%) and Japan (15%) showed the worst results in women's leadership.

Women who managed to overcome all barriers are represented in various industries as follows: real estate – 27% of female senior executives, tourism and hospitality – 34%, IT, media and telecom – 29%, retail – 35%, production – 26%, transport – 26%, healthcare – 30%, financial services – 33%, agriculture – 27%, mining – 36%, electricity, gas and water supply – 17%, professional services – 24%, education and social sphere – 33% and oil&gas – 35%.
