Dmitry Paramonov, an FBK Legal lawyer, took part in the
Business and Law in the Era of Change International Conference held as part of the 4th Moscow Legal Forum.
The speakers, who included Russia's leading lawyers, outlined the most significant legal changes in 2016 and 2017. Issues like the corporate law reform, the government's impact on business, and protection of the economy from unscrupulous businesses were on the agenda.
Mr Paramonov's presentation was entitled
Deoffshorization of the Economy as a Political and Legal Phenomenon. The Attorney at Law at FBK Legal's
Tax Consulting Practice explained what impact on the business environment was made by the government's efforts to deoffshorize the economy and what were the positive and negative aspects of this policy.
"The tax aspects of the Russian economy's deoffshorization are influenced both by the domestic Russian factors and Russia's involvement in international processes aimed at preventing tax base erosion and bringing revenues to jurisdictions that provide a particularly beneficial tax regime. In this context, certain government decisions, such as relief of individuals from the status of a tax resident for political reasons as part of the recently adopted law No 58-FZ dated 3 April 2017, are even more surprising and questionable," said Mr Paramonov.
The annual Moscow Legal Forum is one of the most authoritative specialized summits, a venue bringing together leading lawyers and academics, and a platform for discussing relevant legal issues.
