Within the framework of the sitting of the Commission for Business Education under the Russian Managers Association the head of the commission Sergey Pyatenko, General Director of the FBK Economic and Law School, made a report on the “Ratings, trends and problems of Russian education: is there any interrelation?”(in Russian). In it S. Pyatenko analyzed the major Russian and international educational ratings, their criteria, as well as the rankings of Russian higher schools and business-schools.
“For an entrant and an employer the ranking is the guide. The higher schools and business schools need it for self-control and the brand maintenance”, pointed out the FBK Economic and Law School General Director. “But, most importantly, the presence of the ranking speaks about the presence of the market for educational services.”

Sergey Pyatenko also pointed out that although the role of such ratings was constantly growing their criteria were significantly different, so we could not speak about a single universal method to evaluate the higher schools today.

In the discussion of various methods of rating, their advantages and disadvantages, their objectivity in reflecting the quality of education took part the leading Russian specialists in business education: Mikhail Antonov, director of the design office for improving the competitiveness of the leading RF Universities; Vladislav Kovalenko, first deputy chief editor of the “Secret Firmy” magazine, head of the “MBA programs rating” project; Alexei Kasparzhak, Russian Managers Association chief executive, Yuri Tazov, president of MBA League, Russia, Alexei Khodyrev, Expert-RA rating agency, head of the project of “Ratings of higher schools of Russia”.

The participants in the sitting decided to continue the discussion of the subject in order for the higher schools rating process to become an incentive in the future for improving the quality of education and a useful tool for its development.
