Women in Business 2021. Grant Thornton Research

Date of publication
05.03.2021

According to an annual report on women in business prepared by Grant Thornton, the proportion of leadership roles in medium-sized businesses worldwide held by females reached 31%. Fifteen years ago, this figure did not exceed 19%. Russia has an opposite trend — the share of senior positions filled by women has dropped from 47% to 33% for the last four years.

The biggest proportion of female executives was found in the Philippines (48%) and the last year’s leader — South Africa (43%). European countries (including Russia) are in the centre of the list (32–34%). The United Arab Emirates (26%), South Korea (18%) and Japan (15%) have the lowest figures.

Oil&gas and manufacturing industries have the smallest number of women in senior management (26%), while education and healthcare have the biggest number (39%).

FBK Grant Thornton, in its turn, may be a role model in terms of gender equality, as 50% of partners in the firm are females.
